PCB Chief Meets England Counterpart
Naqvi met with Richard Thompson from the ECB on Saturday. A statement from the PCB quoted Thompson as extending his best wishes for the Champions Trophy tournament.
“Our best wishes are with Pakistan for the Champions Trophy tournament,” Thompson said. According to the statement, he described the England team’s recent visit to Pakistan for a Test series, which the hosts won 2-1, as impressive.
Thompson also thanked Naqvi for the “excellent hospitality” during the series. Naqvi, who also serves as the interior minister, affirmed that Pakistan was ready for the Champions Trophy, noting that “fool-proof arrangements were being made at all levels” for the event.
According to the PCB’s statement, the chief emphasized that stadiums were being upgraded “in a modern manner” and that guest teams would be provided with a “state guest protocol.
BCCI Strongly Objects to PCB’s Tour Plan
The BCCI has firmly opposed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to include disputed areas of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), such as Skardu, Hunza, and Muzaffarabad, in the Champions Trophy tour. BCCI sources informed ANI that Secretary Jay Shah quickly condemned the PCB’s actions and called on the ICC to take decisive measures. The PCB’s announcement of the tour, made without prior consultation, has led to the BCCI’s strong objections.
